Looking At The Heart Of Jesus

Looking At The Heart Of Jesus

There are two powerful characteristics that we can see in the life of Jesus as we examine Mark 1:35-39. Jesus had complete devotion and submission to the Father, and He loved people who were all around Him. Here’s what Mark records:

35 And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. 36 And Simon and those who were with him searched for him, 37 and they found him and said to him, “Everyone is looking for you.” 38 And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out.” 39 And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.

First, we see that Jesus regularly practiced the importance of getting away with God the Father to pray. If Jesus took the time to pray regularly, how much more should we? We need to take the time to give all our burdens and lay our requests at His feet.  We also need to ask Him for wisdom for each day in every area of our lives. Jesus fulfilled the plan that was laid out for Him to preach the Good News. He ministered to people and left behind spiritual multipliers that went everywhere to preach the Gospel message.

Jesus set a wonderful example for us to follow. Want to know what is on the heart of Jesus? Read the Gospels in the New Testament and we’ll know loud and clear. The question for us today is how can we take what was important to Jesus and make it our own? We are called to love God and proclaim the Gospel message to a lost and dying world.

Covering The Basics

Last week we talked about covering the important foundational studies with your disciples first. Here is another resource called “Walk By Faith” that would be critical for them to understand and apply. When you go to the link, go to the third major topic down on the page. It starts with “Compass” – “How To Disciple” and then “Walk By Faith”.

You will find an excellent selection of foundational topics to cover. You can do this one-on-one, in your Bible studies, or even in a weekly meeting. Help people to master and cover these topics. Everything is easily transferable. You can teach it to your disciples and they can teach it to others.

Spring Break Is Coming

If you would like to more effectively train your disciples in sharing their faith (and get some warmer temperatures while you’re at it), consider the Big Break.  This is a great opportunity to build into their lives in so many ways. There is a Big Break in Panama City Beach, FL and in Los Angeles. Check it out. Don’t forget to keep your eye on Summer Projects as well. Both of these activities could be life changing for you.

Valentine’s Day Anyone?

What might you be able to do next week to show the Love of Christ to others during Valentine’s Day? How might you also make Christ an issue on your campus or ministry situation to share the Gospel message. Now is a good time to consider how your big monthly evangelistic event could center on love and Valentine’s Day. Here is an excellent article on Evangelism Strategies.

Talk to you next week,
