Ministry Tip 10, Spring 2014:
Is Everybody On The Same Page?
I recently had an excellent conversation with a head of a campus ministry who explained that they had four strong leaders on the leadership team. All four leaders seem to have a great talent and vision for different aspects of their ministry to students. One leader had a heart for evangelism and used their gifting in specific ways. The other leader was incredibly faithful and committed to the group and works hard to keep a good relationship with the overall campus community. Another leader was good at administration and following up on issues to keep the club running smoothly.
The stage is set for a wonderful ministry on campus. One thing that I encourage the head of this ministry to focus on – make sure everyone agrees with the same vision on campus.
We do have different leaders with different talents and many ideas. In order to see the maximum happen on campus, unity around a common vision and mission is important. It is called having synergism –
“The interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.”
In your leadership meetings, take the time regularly to rally everyone around a common cause, vision and mission statement. Be unified.
Here are some links that will help you as you talk to your leaders about your common mission and vision. Make sure everyone understands our “Defining Our Cause” article. Explain the Vision to your students. The Great Commission is our marching orders as explained by Bill Bright, our late founder and president. Finally, keep evangelism constantly before all your students.
Be unified and create synergism in your ministry. Be sure everyone is on the same page.
Talk to you next week,
