Grow Deep, Reach High

The Food With The Longest Shelf Life

A couple of weeks ago, in John 6:1-15, we looked at the event where Jesus had finished feeding 5,000 men, including the women and children, by miraculously turning 5 barley loaves and 2 fish into a feast for all the people. The people clearly saw the sign that He had performed.

In verses 22- 29 the people track Jesus down and He tells them,

26 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. 27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” 28 Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”

The work that God is calling all of us, who are committed disciples, is to believe in Him and also to tell others about Him. He is the food that endures to eternal life (see verses 35, 50, 51, 54, 58). The food that Jesus gives has an eternal shelf life.

Get Ready For Your Fall Retreat

Around the fire-X3

Now is the time to encourage the people in your ministry to go to your regional Fall Retreat. The Fall Retreat is a great time to grow closer to those in your ministry, to the Lord, and receive training and motivation to help you as you reach out to your campus. Go and bring as many students with you as possible. Make this a key emphasis in your weekly meeting/Bible studies this week and next. Time is short.

To find your nearest Fall Retreat, ask your Cru staff coach or find the nearest campus ministry near you and ask them if your campus can join their retreat. Go to this site to find your closest campus.

Talk to you next week,

Ben with Cru
