The Daytona 500 – Celebrating You

1 Timothy 4:12
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.”

Trevor Bayne winning the Daytona 500

This past Sunday at the Daytona 500, we had a chance to see history made. We saw the youngest NASCAR driver in Daytona 500 history win this prestigious race. What was inspiring about this race was the driver himself. Trevor Bayne, it turns out, was twenty years old plus one day. The sports section of the Orlando Sentinel newspaper said about Trevor on 2-21-11,
“He excitedly referred to Jesus Christ as “THE MAN” after he won the race. And when somebody asked him what would be the first thing he buys with the $1.5 million prize for winning the Daytona 500, he talked about donating some of the money to a number of Christian-based charities.”

Check out this video and catch the words he uses. Trevor explains where some of his real priorities lie and a glimpse of his faith,

I love this commentary, also in the Orlando Sentinel, about Trevor Bayne going up against seasoned racers,
“This is how: You go bumper-to-bumper with the best in the business. You endure 74 lead changes among 22 drivers. You survive a record 16 cautions that ruin the chances of many of the big names like Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. You hold off high-profile veterans like Tony Steward, Kurt Bush and Bobby Labonte on the final lap. And somehow, someway, this young, up-and-coming driver — wins the big race for an old, down-and-out race team. He has everything the critics say the sport is missing. He has personality. He has pizzazz. He has loads of humility but no fear. He has the faith, fun and family values that NASCAR fans crave. He is Tim Tebow at 200 mph.”

This reminds me of you – our student and lay leaders! Maybe you’re in the 19 – 26 year age range, but that is nothing to God. There isn’t anything you cannot do with God’s help. You have the ability with the power of the Holy Spirit to reach your campus, see students come into a relationship with Christ, and see leaders sent out to make a difference around the U.S. and the world. We celebrate you because you are our young Trevor Bayne. Believe in yourself because you and God make a majority.

The Scope of our Mission
We don’t want you to lose sight of our vision and goals for your campus. Here’s a well written article that explains our desire for each campus. Check it out:

Talk to you next week,
