Build Disciples With A Heart For God

Cru Weekly Ministry Tip, Spring 2012, #5

In the last chapters of Joshua, we read a brief summary of what God has done for Israel, how He went before them and fought for them, and that they are now to follow Him with all their heart. Here are some selected verses from Joshua chapters 23 and 24:

23:6 “Be very firm, then, to keep and do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, so that you may not turn aside from it to the right hand or to the left…”

23:8-11 “But you are to cling to the LORD your God, as you have done to this day.9 For the LORD has driven out great and strong nations from before you; and as for you, no man has stood before you to this day.10 One of your men puts to flight a thousand, for the LORD your God is He who fights for you, just as He promised you.11 So take diligent heed to yourselves to love the LORD your God.”

24:14-15 “Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.15 If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Part of God’s calling upon our lives is to love Him, obey Him and live a right life. As you disciple students on your campus, helping them to walk with God is not just for the college years, but also for a lifetime. Make no mistake, difficulties and challenges of life will come, but when we are devoted to God and we obey all of His word, He will meet our every need and He will be with us, even in the midst of tragedy. He will also give us peace and hope in our hearts because we know that He is in control and not the circumstances around us.

Take the approach on campus to do all you can to give your students the best teaching and training, as you work at the same time to give every student on campus an opportunity to hear the message of Christ. Don’t settle for just having “nice” Bible studies, but really dig in and help give your student hope, encouragement, and drive for living a godly life and reaching your campus.

Re-evaluate what you’re teaching in your Bible studies. One of the best series we have on our web page is the Cru.Comm studies. Another option for helping your students get the important basic elements of Christian growth is to go to the Life Concept series. Consider a number of other ideas for Bible studies from our Cru Press Green web site. To bring in some variety, use some of the video testimonies from the I Am Second series. Of course you can use a variety of studies from all of these sources. The key is to keep your material dynamic so students are growing in their walk with God, and they’ll be able to teach the material to others (2 Timothy 2:2).
Take a few minutes to explore these websites and see what will work for you. It is a good time to re-evaluate what is being taught in your Bible studies. Give your students the best material possible so they are building disciples with a heart for God.

Talk to you next week,
