Stay the Course, Multiply Your Ministry

Cru Weekly Ministry Tip, Spring 2012, #4

In 2 Timothy the apostle Paul gives his final commands and encouragements to Timothy, one of his beloved disciples. Paul encourages Timothy to live out a dynamic faith, boldly proclaiming the gospel, and to be encouraged in the midst of trials. Here are some specific marching orders that Paul give to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:1-4;

1 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
3 Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.

In verse 2, Paul is calling Timothy to multiply his ministry into the lives of others. Paul also warns Timothy that difficulties will come, but to stay the course and be committed to the Lord, whose life is in His hands. Paul gives the wisdom and warnings in verses 3-4, because he knows that without Timothy understanding what God has called him to, he could stray from God’s desire for his life. Check out this creatively, but true video of what it means to apply verse 2 above in a modern context.

I believe God has called us to do the same – to go and make disciples who will outlast us on campus. One area that could play a significant role in making disciples is summer projects.

Summer Projects

One of the areas that will help you to make disciples and stay the course is the close and intense discipleship you will receive on a summer project. Now is the time to help all your students begin thinking about why they should consider going. Your life may never be the same again after a project. Check out the web page and how you might help others to go with you. Time is shorter than you realize and space can be limited on some projects. Begin praying if God would have you to go and begin encouraging others from your campus to go with you. Here’s the web page: http://gosummerproject.com/

Talk to you next week,
