Begin Your “Once A Month” Strategies

The heart behind the “Once A Month” strategy is to encourage you to think about doing one significant evangelistic push on your campus each month. By evangelistic push we’re talking about doing something that gives students on a larger scale, an opportunity to hear and explore their relationship with Christ.

Why a “Once A Month” strategy? This strategy is to encourage spiritual conversations all over campus and provide you with contacts of interested students. A monthly campus wide evangelistic event can give lift to your ministry by encouraging students further in checking out your weekly meetings/Bible study. Without the element of intentional, assertive evangelism, you could see your ministry quickly plateau or stagnate. Keep meeting new people all over campus by making Jesus an issue.

Here are some examples of a significant, larger scale event:
• At Halloween, have someone speak on the occult or witchcraft. This will get students interest and give them a chance to hear the gospel message.
• Creation vs. evolution debate. This is always a hot and popular topic on any campus. You’ll first need to find someone who is an authority on creation.
• Cru has traveling speakers who can do a great job. Contact your local staff coach for connections to these speakers.

Our goal should be to reach everyone on campus. I just read the mission statement for Purdue University Cru. It is: “That every student on campus would have the opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

This involves relying on the Holy Spirit to win as many students as possible to Christ. It is building them in their faith through multiplying discipleship. Finally, it is sending students back into the campus to reach their friends, classmates and everyone God gives them an opportunity to connect with. That’s our goal on campus and in fact, the world.

Matthew 28:19-20 is the great commission Jesus gave to His disciples:
19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Finally, while you’re contacting your staff coach about evangelistic ideas for your “Once A Month” strategy, ask them about local fall retreats in your area. Don’t miss out. Fall retreats are great ways to build relationships and commitments on your campus.
