Weekly Tip #11, Fall 2016
The Secret Again Revealed, But Not Understood
At least three times in the book of Matthew, Jesus reveals to His disciples what was going to happen to Him. The disciples heard what He said but just could not figure out how that was possibly going to happen. Here’s what Matthew wrote in chapter 17;
22 As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men, 23 and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.” And they were greatly distressed.
What Jesus just predicted to His disciples is perhaps the greatest event in all of human history. The Old Testament prophets predicted this and the personal access to God was changed forever. Through the blood of Jesus and His once and for all sacrifice, all who believe in Him would be saved. But how would Jesus rise from the dead? That was a miracle from God and His plan for mankind. The disciples were not yet able to understand His plan but we know that Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection will transform lives. The secret is out, go tell someone.
Has Your Ministry Been Slowing Down? Are You In Need Of A Jump Start?
We are all currently past the half way point in our fall term. Have you felt like some students have just stopped coming to your meetings/Bible studies? Is motivation slightly lacking? Have you wondered how you might get things back on track? I have a three-word acronym that I hope will give you some ideas. It is P E F.
Prayer – I would encourage you to take some time with your leaders on campus to specifically pray. Be sure you’re living a pure life and you’re also Spirit-filled. Petition the God, who hears us when we pray, and ask Him for your specific requests. Prayer walk the campus or hold a special meeting.
Exposure – Consider putting up fresh posters all over campus and passing out flyers. Would doing another survey table to gather new students work? Are you sharing the “Knowing God Personally” booklet and having spiritual conversations all over campus? Do what you can to give renewed exposure to your ministry. Use MissionHub to keep track of your students for follow-up.
Fellowship – Throw a big party where everyone can come together apart from your Bible studies/weekly meetings, and spend time really connecting with each other. Have a square dance, go bowling, camping, volleyball competition, do a card tournament, and of course serve up lots of food (did someone say pizza?) People will continue coming to your meetings because they’re coming to see their friends. Be creative and do a fun social event. This can help re-energize your movement.
Talk to you next week,
Ben with Cru
